because the summer isn't over yet!

By Berkshires Macaroni Kid July 13, 2026

It’s a familiar late-summer feeling in the Berkshires: the calendar turns to August, and a bit of panic sets in that the season is slipping away. But if you think the summer energy is winding down, you haven't been to downtown Great Barrington lately!

Berkshire Busk!, the transformative street performance festival that turns downtown sidewalks into open-air stages, is just hitting its stride. With six jam-packed weekends left of the season, Friday and Saturday nights remain the premier destination for families, foodies, and music lovers alike. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every weekend through the end of the summer, different artists can be found in the Barrington House Courtyard next to the Triplex. If you haven't made it down yet—or if you're looking for an excuse to come back—here is what's in store on the streets through August.

1. Every Single Night is for the Kids

Finding an activity for toddlers, teens, AND parents can be a tall order. Berkshire Busk! and the Fairview Kids’ Zone is the key to something for everyone. Sponsored by Fairview Hospital, the festival features a professional face painter or balloon twister every single night. It’s a guaranteed hit for families looking to grab ice cream, peruse local shops, and let the kids marvel feel engaged in the goings-on.

2. Mark Your Calendar: High-Step Energy & Nostalgic Jams

While every weekend promises a diverse lineup of musicians, acoustic acts, and visual artists, August boasts a few highly anticipated, stand-out dates:

  • August 22 – Irish Step Dancing Mastery: The exceptionally talented dancers from Scoil Rince Briefne Ó Ruairc will bring their high-energy, rhythmic precision to the pavement. It’s an infectious, crowd-favorite performance that always packs the sidewalk.
  • August 29 – Local Folk & Childhood Nostalgia: Local folk singer Willy Welch takes the stage. While grown-ups will appreciate his acoustic storytelling, kids (and parents of a certain generation) will get a kick out of hearing music from a man who penned some of the most iconic, memorable songs for Barney & Friends.

3. Support the Streets

What makes Berkshire Busk! so key to family fun is its accessibility. There are no tickets to purchase or gates to pass through; it is an inclusive celebration of art right in the heart of the community. As you listen to live, local artists, and meet your friends and neighbors on the street, you are experiencing the very best of Great Barrington's creative spirit.

Don't let the final weeks of summer slip by without a stroll downtown! Grab dinner at a local eatery, browse the street vendors, and let the buskers entertain you.
