In the dead of winter, after the sun goes down, we light the chanukiah and place it in the window to share our light with everyone who can see it. To show that in a dark world we can always light up our lives or the lives of other people, we like to perform mitzvot during Chanukah. A mitzvah is a good deed, and mitzvotare good deeds. Sometimes for mitzvot, people will cook meals for people who have a hard time getting food for themselves, visit sick friends to light the chanukiah together, or bring gifts to people who might not get presents.

This year Hevreh brought the magic to we’re to Kimball Farms Life Care, Kindred Living at Laurel Lake, and Devonshire. Rabbi Hirsch and Rabbi Gordon are hitting the road and we hope you can make it too! Besides lighting the chanukiah, we’ll be singing songs, playing dreidel, and eating gelt to help everyone get into the Chanukah spirit. To join us for a candle lighting, check out our Hevreh calendar HERE.

Since it’s important for us to share Chanukah, here’s a yummy activity that everyone can do, Jewish or not. If you haven’t eaten a dreidel before, now is your chance. Happy spinning!

And come back tomorrow to learn how to play dreidel!
