I was on Week 3 of Jenny Craig March 13-19

Ain't it funny how life changes
You wake up, ain't nothing the same and life changes
You can't stop it, just hop on the train and
You never know what's gonna happen
You make your plans and you hear god laughing
Life changes ~ Thomas Rhett

Sometimes, despite all your planning, as Thomas Rhett sings, "Life changes."

As I kicked off Week 3 on the Jenny Craig Rapid Results Program, I was full of excitement and determination. Excitement because I was headed to Florida for 10 days of rest and relaxation with my husband and two out of three of our children. Determined to stay on the Jenny Craig meal plan, despite all the temptations I knew would be before me.

The plan was set. With my Jenny Craig consultant's help, we had created 10 days of menus to be shipped to my parents' house where we would be staying. #WeightLossWin. So many plans are difficult to stay on when traveling or vacationing, but Jenny Craig makes it easy. I knew exactly what I was going to eat during my time away from home, and with the option to swap out three meals each week, I made sure that a lot of my favorites were on the menu for the week, so I was less tempted to stray.

Let the temptations begin

And it didn't take long at all to be tested. We arrived Saturday afternoon and we were greeted with friends and a cocktail hour — complete with LOTS of snacks. I had already eaten my afternoon snack on the plane. Uh oh. But then I remembered that I had Parmesan Crisps on the menu for that night's evening snack. Instead of snacking on crackers and cheese, chips and dip, I decided it would be better to eat those early, rather than break from the plan. (Jenny Craig recommends not swapping the time meals and snacks are eaten, but Norma and I had come up with strategies to help me stay on the plan and this was one of them.)

The Cauliflower Fried Rice with Chicken was one of my favorite Jenny Craig meals already. But eating it under a palm tree in Florida just made it that much better.

But the following morning life threw a wrench in my plans, or rather the coronavirus did.

Suddenly our nice relaxation vacation was became filled with afternoons glued to the tv watching the continuous stream of breaking news updates and press conferences. As businesses began to shut down, travel advisories were getting stricter, and all of a sudden sticking to Jenny Craig while in Florida was the last thing on my mind. Now, it was very likely that we would be heading home early, and I had to figure out how to transport a week's worth of frozen foods back home on the plane. I'm sure that because Jenny Craig had already been accommodating in so many ways through the weeks that they would help me out if I had to leave my meals in Florida. They already had been helping members find alternatives to picking up their food with the new restrictions and businesses closing during this crisis. But with a little ingenuity from my mom and I, we figured out how to transport the meals home — an extra suitcase, some ice packs, and a reusable grocery bag for frozen foods did the trick.

Yet, there was another problem to deal with. We were now heading home to a house with no fruits and no vegetables that I would need to continue on the plan and no one was feeling great about heading to the grocery store. Well, some quick thinking and an order via a home delivery system took care of that. When I arrived home, Jenny Craig meals intact, the groceries were waiting for me and I didn't have a single break from the plan.

This week, I didn't even focus on the weight loss, it was all about getting home safely to be with all of my kids, and having a plan to stay on the Jenny Craig Rapid Results Program as we prepared to shelter in place. I was down a pound though and that felt really good. * Avg. weight lost 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program

On a side note: Next week should be a bit challenging as that grocery order also included some comfort food snacks, requests from my kids. And I know we will have a lot more downtime on our hands. So I'm thinking I better get planning again pretty quickly to ensure that, even in a crisis, I can still have success on Jenny Craig. I've come too far not to.
