Smiling from the inside out after eight weeks on Jenny Craig

I was on Week 8 of Jenny Craig April 3-10

See that smile in that photo up there πŸ‘†πŸ»πŸ‘†πŸ»πŸ‘†πŸ»

I haven't seen it for a while.

No matter how hard I try not to let my weight affect my spirit, when I'm not feeling good about the way I look or feel, my smile seems to dull a little bit.

Maybe it comes from growing up as an athlete. I never had to worry much about my weight when I was younger. I could eat whatever I wanted and my clothes would still fit in the morning. If I gained a little weight between seasons, I didn't care. I knew it would come off as soon as practices started up for the next sports season. So maybe that's why it hits me harder when my clothes fit more snug, a muffin top shows despite the baggy sweater I'm wearing or my bathing suit looks less than flattering on in the summer. I'm not sure.

And now after eight weeks on the Jenny Craig Rapid Results Program, I'm 10.5 pounds down (*Avg. weight lost 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program). I'm wearing a pair of jeans I bought a few years ago right before I started gaining weight back after a year at goal. I'm feeling confident, and dare I say, a little bit sexy, with less weight on my frame. And so my smile, that kind of smile that lights you up from the inside out, has returned.

But I've been here before. I've reached goal and promised myself I would do everything I should to maintain that weight. I would take all that I'd learned during my weight loss journey and continue to implement it into my daily routines.

So here I am, a little less than five pounds away from goal, and I'm thinking about all I've learned so far while on Jenny Craig and hoping I'll make it stick this time.

  • I will keep in mind a balanced diet and portion control when I eat.
  • I will keep carbs to a minimum because too many do not agree with my system or my weight loss plan
  • I will keep a hardy supply of fruit and vegetables in my refrigerator and when those are hard to find (as they have been during the COVID-19 pandemic) frozen and canned are good alternatives.
  • It's OK to have snacks within reason.
  • Intermittent fasting is helpful in weight loss and maintenance.
  • It's easier to lose and maintain weight when you're active.
  • It's always helpful to have a coach, accountability partner or anyone there just cheering you on.
  • It's not always about the weight — it's about how you feel and I'm feeling fantastic.

So with only a little more to go, I'm going to start to work with Norma next week on making an "after Jenny Craig" plan. A plan I can stick to, a plan that will keep that smile on my face.
