Oh I think that I found myself some cheerleaders during Jenny Craig

This article highlights my journey with Jenny Craig for the week of April 10-17

This is it. My final week of the Jenny Craig Rapid Results Program has come to end and so this will be my last post here on my site about the nine-week journey I took to lose 11 pounds. *Avg. weight loss 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program

It wasn't easy. No weight loss program ever is for those of us who struggle with our weight. Then throw the 2020 COVID-19 Crisis into the middle of it, and let's just say there were a few more stressors than there would have been in "normal" circumstances.

All three kids were home now that schools and colleges were closed which meant more food (specifically, junk food) was in the house. There was no set schedule that had to be followed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner so family members seemed to be coming in and out of the kitchen ALL DAY LONG. Let's just say, the smell of food cooking permeated the house all the time. And then there were the long wait times in between grocery store visits or deliveries and then you'd find out the stores were out of half of everything you wanted especially fresh fruit and veggies.

On most programs, I would have folded. Thrown up my hands, grabbed a cookie, and went to the couch to binge-watch something, anything. But not this time. During this very unusual time, Jenny Craig carried on business as usual. Sure those who were doing food pickups and check-ins at Jenny Craig centers had to change the way they did things a little, but for those like me who were on the at-home delivery plan and weekly phone calls with their consultant, absolutely nothing changed. My meals arrived on my front porch every week, and Norma was there to greet me every Friday afternoon with a "Hi Kelly. It's Norma from Jenny Craig," all the way from sunny California. Knowing I could count on these two things through nine weeks of the program made all the difference.

But what made an even bigger difference in my success, an unexpected benefit of the "shelter at home" order, was the support I received from a variety of sources — the cheerleaders I discovered I had.

Of course, everyone on the Jenny Craig program gets their own personal cheerleader — their Jenny Craig consultant. Mine was Norma and she was my savior at times. But I also realized I had a whole house full of cheerleaders encouraging me to stay on the plan even when all I wanted was to dig into the snack drawer for a bag of chips. Kenna (and my mom when we were in Florida) got me moving. Max and Shea would occasionally check-in to make sure I was eating "on plan" and Max would let me know I was "looking good Mom" every once in a while. And Mark took to snacking in other rooms so I wouldn't be tempted (the men in my house have metabolisms so fast they can eat ANYTHING at ANY TIME and NEVER GAIN A POUND), and he also let me know regularly that the plan was working, he could see it, which is always a good motivator when you find your husband checking you out with a smile.

And then there were friends, who'd call up and check on me. Who understood when we went out (when there was a time we could go out together) that I wouldn't be drinking and eating what they were for a while, but we still had no less fun. And they were excited to learn about my progress along the way. There were those constant cheerleaders from my MacKid family who were on the same journey as me or just watching it from afar and I know they'll still be around when this is all over (you know who I'm talking about Julie and Jen).

Just a few of the members of my Cheerleading Squad!

So I have a lot going for me as I move forward after Jenny Craig. I will miss my calls with Norma, but I will have her with me always as I follow the tools for success she gave me on the plan, and for weaning off of it. I will still have my cheerleading kiddos around for a while, and when life returns to normal we still have virtual ways to stay connected so I can call on their support when needed. And, of course, my number one fan in the household (that's Mark, not the dogs, but they could argue that fact) will always be around to keep me going. He just needs to remember to eat the cheese and crackers in the kitchen when I'm watching TV in the living room.

So "Thank You" Jenny Craig and Macaroni Kid for giving me this opportunity to get healthier and fitter, and for helping me realize that I have more cheerleaders around me than I ever realized.
