413Shirts is a Pittsfield-based clothing and gift company that makes it easy to shop locally, in-person, and online. They’re open 6 days a week through the holidays as well as offering always free shipping in their online shop.
The only thing the team at 413Shirts.com takes seriously is finding the magic of everyday life. Local entrepreneurs Dan Proskin and Nick Watroba work together at local home & office furniture store BBE Office Interiors. While at their day job last fall dealing with sourcing furniture and supply chain issues the two put their heads together to try and find local solutions. The response to local products was well received so the team spent an afternoon brainstorming what other local products they might be able to offer the community. The conversation somehow took to talking about local landmarks that everyone in the community would recognize and how they could take those places and create a niche people would enjoy. Dan Proskin President of BBE and partner in 413Shirts says, “We were talking about Ilvermorny Magic School at the top of Mt. Greylock based off of the Harry Potter Universe and it being a place most people have visited and we made a joke about making a t-shirt.” The team got to work and drew a sketch of what would become one of their first t-shirt designs. The design features a hand-drawn version of the castle dreamily nestled at the top of the Berkshire's highest peak.

413Shirts designs generally fall into 4 categories Throwback, Funny, Classic, and Beyond Berkshires. Their designs celebrate current and past gone landmarks such as England Brothers, Kennedy Park, the Hoosac Tunnel, Bonanza, Cape Cod, and dozens more. Their most popular design “Pittsfield Things- Allendale Sea Bee” mixes both a throwback with funny by offering the phrase “Made Sense to Somebody”. Nick Watroba a 413Shirts partner says “the stories people send us have been the best part of the adventure. We offer a throwback J.J. Newberry’s shirt and before last Christmas, a woman let us know her parents met at Newberrys. Her mother was working there in the 60’s while she was single and her father would visit her so much on the job her mother eventually was fired. They lived happily ever after though.” It is these unique memories around all of their designs and products that have helped them grow through their first year. The goal to create a local gift that sparks a smile and a conversation is their guiding principle.

The shop open year-round features t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, glassware, jewelry, seasonal gifts, and lots of locally made products even offering honey, syrup, and canned goods from local farms with whom they have partnered. 413Shirts stocks t-shirts and hoodies for the younger generation as well. Offering newborn, toddler, and youth shirts and hoodies. Customers are encouraged to stop by their shop where the 413 Team can press any design in any size or color in about 5-10 minutes.
