Berkshire Camp Spotlight: Berkshire Museum Camperships Now Open!

By Berkshire Museum May 28, 2024

Do you have a junior archaeologist? An aspiring filmmaker? A curator in the making? The Berkshire Museum is excited to offer a summer full of camps for children in Pre-K to Grade 8, catering to all areas of interest!

Scholarships for qualifying prospective campers are NOW AVAILABLE!

This summer, from July 1st to August 23rd, each program is tailored to a specific age group and led by our expert educators. Campers will be immersed in the world of their choosing, making connections between art, science, and history in the Museum’s new classrooms and throughout our galleries. With our 40,000-object collection, campers develop skills, create art, conduct experiments, and make new friends, all while having a ton of fun!

Imagine your child traveling back in time to the era of the dinosaurs in Dino Discovery Camp! They will hatch eggs, learn about dinosaurs, and become honorary archaeologists as they recreate prehistoric environments. This hands-on, engaging program is perfect for young explorers fascinated by the ancient world.

Or perhaps your child is more inclined towards engineering? In Junior Engineering Camp, campers let their imagination soar as they build with LEGOs, Snap-circuits, and even construct ping-pong ball roller coasters. They'll learn to build toothpick bridges strong enough to hold several cans of soup, honing their engineering skills in a fun and creative environment.

For nature lovers, Pond Camp offers the chance to make a personal connection with the animals living in our own backyard. Campers will listen to the sounds of local wildlife, find tracks, and spot turtles, frogs, crayfish, water bugs, herons, and more. This session includes field trips to a local pond to observe animals in their natural habitat (weather permitting), making it an unforgettable experience.

Is your child intrigued by the museum world? Junior Curator Camp provides a behind-the-scenes look at the Museum. With the help of our Chief Curator, campers will create their own mini-exhibitions. They will choose their own theme, select objects from the Museum’s collection, research their own objects, and create exhibition materials, learning about the extensive work involved in creating an exhibition.

For the budding filmmakers, Animation Camp offers the chance to create a stop-motion mini-movie from screen test to post-production. Campers will develop their own story, make a storyboard, and design scenery and colorful characters. The animated clips will be featured in an animation festival held on the last day of camp, showcasing their creative achievements.

Explore a single theme in-depth in one or several of our popular week-long summer day camp experiences. Each program runs on a morning, afternoon, or full-day schedule.
