As the autumn chill deepens and the holiday season approaches, Berkshire Waldorf School extends a warm invitation to families across the Berkshires for their beloved annual tradition. The 52nd Annual Holiday Handcraft Fair will take place on Saturday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school’s location, 35 West Plain Road, Great Barrington. This cherished community event, which has marked the beginning of the festive season since 1972, promises a day filled with hands-on activities, delicious food, and a touch of seasonal magic.
A Creative Welcome to the Holidays
Attendees of all ages will find joy in a variety of creative activities, from puppet shows and jump rope making to more delicate crafts like beeswax candle dipping. The fair’s interactive offerings let visitors not only enjoy but also craft unique handmade gifts to give this season. Families will delight in snapping memories at the whimsical dress-up photo booth or exploring the cozy wonders of the Handcraft Room, which brims with warm, handmade items perfect for gifting.
The fair’s popular Berkshire Country Store returns, offering one-of-a-kind gifts and gourmet treats. For those needing a mid-fair refreshment, Rudy’s Diner will serve up delicious snacks, desserts, and lunch options. Returning culinary favorite Authentic Eats by Oleg will be joined by the new addition of Los Lopez Taco Truck, with selections available to suit various dietary needs, including vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. And for a truly nostalgic sip, don’t miss the fair’s signature lemon sippers!
Playful Experiences for Young and Old
Children will be enchanted by a Waldorf puppet play featuring handcrafted puppets, performed by the school’s Early Childhood teachers. The Children’s Craft Room offers kids the chance to create their own presents, sparking joy and creativity. The fair’s unique “Sweet Spot” game, enhanced with live music, promises treats for the lucky winners, while the beloved Pocket Fairy makes her rounds, distributing tiny surprises from her many hidden pockets.
Excitement for Adults
For grown-up attendees, the Auction Room is the centerpiece of the fair, showcasing premium local goods, handmade toys, and services. This year, online bidding will be available leading up to and beyond the fair day, offering flexibility for attendees to participate. The Raffle Room also provides excitement for all, with prizes ranging from local treasures to a substantial $1,000 grocery card valid at Guido’s, the Berkshire Food Coop, or Big Y. Additionally, this year’s special Community Afghan—a symbol of local artisanship and togetherness—will be among the prizes offered.
All proceeds from the fair support the programs and students of the Berkshire Waldorf School, a curriculum of academic excellence activated with movement, music, outdoor learning and the arts that has been preparing students to achieve their full potential for 53 years. For those inspired by the fair and the school’s mission, applications for the 2025-26 school year are open now for children from 18 months to Eighth Grade. Generous tuition support is available for qualifying families.
