Take A Step Back In Time During Berkshire Coaching Weekend

By Berkshires Macaroni Kid September 27, 2023

Get ready for an extraordinary drive through the beautiful countryside – it's no ordinary trip! October 6-8th marks the tenth edition of the charming tradition known as Coaching in the Berkshires, which harkens back to the glamorous Gilded Age. Nestled in the heart of western Massachusetts, the Berkshires are famous for their natural beauty and served as a cherished destination for the members of the Coaching Club of New York at the turn of the century.

Some of the prominent figures in the Coaching Club included Augustus Schermerhorn, Harris Fahnestock, George Griswold Haven Sr. and George Griswold Haven Jr., Harry Payne White, and the esteemed Frank K. Sturgis, who led the club as its president. These enthusiasts of their time flocked to the Berkshires to revel in the splendid autumn weather and take in the breathtaking scenery of the rolling hills.

But that's not all! The Berkshires also became a favored retreat for famous families like the Astors, Vanderbilts, Fields, Morgans, Carnegies, and Westinghouses. They constructed grand and opulent "Cottages," giving the Berkshires the nickname "Inland Newport."

Now, it's your turn to be a part of this wonderful tradition. You're cordially invited to come and witness the magnificent coaches at Elm Court Estate. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it amidst the enchanting surroundings of this lovely property.

We also encourage you to join us in watching the coaches as they journey through the scenic roads of the Berkshires, passing through the charming village of Stockbridge on their way to and from Orleton Farm. It's a delightful experience that captures the timeless charm of a bygone era, and we can't wait to share it with you and your family. Don't miss out on this extraordinary adventure!
