Berkshire Museum Unveils “One-of-a-Kind Wonders”

Pittsfield, MA - Berkshire Museum announces its upcoming exhibition, One-of-a-Kind Wonders, featuring a captivating collection of extraordinary artifacts that have remained hidden within the museum's archives. On display from October 28, 2023, through January 7, 2024.

An opening preview event will be held on Friday, October 27 — offering the first look at the One-of-a-Kind Wonders exhibition, followed by a screening of Brian De Palma’s 1974 cult film, Phantom of the Paradise, starring (Berkshire Museum's “Festival of Trees” opening celebration guest), Paul Williams. Doors open at 6 PM, the film begins at 7 PM.  

Highlights of One-of-a-Kind Wonders include:

The Stone that Buried the Devil: A local legend brought to life—see the very stone that was purportedly used to bury the devil in Berkshire County.

19th Century German Dolls: Delve into the enchanting world of 19th-century German dolls, showcasing their intricate craftsmanship and captivating history.

Lava from Mt. Vesuvius: Witness a piece of history itself with a section of lava from the infamous eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

Abraham Lincoln's Last Breath: View a fragment of the pillowcase on which Abraham Lincoln drew his final breath, a poignant piece of American history.

Assorted Albino Animals: Experience the mystique of nature's rarest creatures with an assortment of albino animals that will both astound and amaze.

A Curious Weapon from Vatican City: Explore a newly discovered, enigmatic weapon that made its way to the Berkshires from the heart of Vatican City, shrouded in mystery.

Chief Curator, Jesse Kowalski, notes, “Our staff have identified many unusual objects within the vaults of the Berkshire Museum. Included within the exhibition are numerous items that have unbelievable stories, bizarre origins, and are unique to the Berkshire Museum. This exhibition should be a delight for children of all ages.”
