Katunemo Youth Art Workshop

By Berkshires Macaroni Kid September 26, 2024

Katunemo, born from a series of meaningful experiences, is collaborating with Latinas413 to present a special youth art-making workshop at THECOLLAB in Pittsfield. This workshop, conducted in English and Spanish, invites youth to explore and discuss their cultural heritage, the things they miss, and what they love most about their countries and cultures.

The workshop offers a unique space for young participants to engage in conversations about their identities while creating art that reflects their personal and cultural experiences. This event is a part of a broader mission to bring together immigrant communities and foster a deeper understanding of the diverse experiences of individuals immersed in U.S. society.

THECOLLAB, located at 163 North Street, Pittsfield, has hosted a variety of artistic projects, such as the "30 Under 30" exhibition, where young artists shared their experiences across different mediums, and "Berkshire Bateria," which used music to inspire and uplift. Another notable exhibition, "Rites of Passage," featured women of color creating art to represent significant moments in their lives through ritual.

Katunemo seeks to create a space where many artistic disciplines coexist, allowing artists to express themselves and learn from one another. This project uniquely integrates coaching, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and psychology to help individuals reflect on their cultural heritages and personal growth.

Katunemo is more than just an art initiative; it is a community-building project. It creates a network of support, resources, and opportunities for emerging artists and community members who engage in its activities. By healing and growing together, participants are able to move forward in their personal and artistic journeys.
