Rhythm Alive for ages 8-10

July 5 – July 8, 2022, | Tuesday – Friday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. | Pulse Studios | $300, TA and EBT available

with Berkshire Pulse Performing Arts Faculty and Guest Teaching Artists

This week-long program is dedicated to exploring rhythm in dance and music. Introductory classes in drumming, tap and African dance will teach students the importance of rhythm in culture and technique, how to listen for rhythm, and how to create it.  Students will be guided to observe and discuss the rhythms they hear, see, and feel, around the studio and in the world around them. A daily dance-making class will use these observations as inspiration and teach choreographic tools to develop movement and artistic voice.  The program culminates with an informal sharing for families on the last day.


Dance Discovery for ages 9+

with Berkshire Pulse Performing Arts Faculty and Guest Teaching Artists

This class invites students on a fun and adventurous expedition into the exciting, engaging, and rewarding world of dance. Students explore a range of dance styles with daily classes in ballet, modern, jazz, Capoeira, and African dance technique.  A daily dance-making class will teach students choreographic tools to create dance phrases.  The program culminates with an informal sharing for families on the last day.


Hip Hop/Street Style Intensive, for all levels ages 12+

July 11 – July 16, 2022, | Monday- Friday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. | Pulse Studios | $450, TA and EBT available

with Andres Ramirez and guest teaching artists

In this week-long program, students will learn foundational movements and techniques of hip-hop and street style, alongside the cultural meaning and significance of these moves. Students will delve deeper into the world of hip hop with class discussions and lessons on history, music, art, and culture. The emphasis in this program is on social dancing and creativity.  The program will create an encouraging space to try out what you learn and most importantly show off your unique style and personality while freestyling in daily ciphers. Styles will include beginner’s breakdancing, party grooves, and footwork. The program culminates with an informal sharing for families on the last day.


Contemporary Intensive

July 18 – July 30, 2022, | Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Mornings at Pulse & Afternoons at Chesterwood | $700, TA and EBT Available

Culminating Presentation on Saturday, July 30 at 5 p.m. Rain date on Sunday, July 31 at 5 p.m.

Serving 2 groups of students:

Group 1: advanced beginner/intermediate dancers, ages 11-13

Group 2: intermediate/advanced dancers, ages 14+

with Berkshire Pulse Performing Arts Faculty and Guest Teaching Artists

This two-week interdisciplinary program develops excellence in technique as well as openness and collaboration in the creative process. The morning session takes place in the Pulse studios with daily modern, jazz, and contemporary dance technique classes. Technique classes will focus on full-bodied movement with connectedness and ease, alignment, somatic awareness, and dynamic movement. The afternoon will take place in the sculpture gardens at Chesterwood, and bring dancers into the creative process. Improvisation and choreography classes will utilize studies of phrase-making, composition, and structured improvisations. Dancers will be guided collaboratively to create a site-specific and immersive audience experience for an in-person showing and a dance film. The program will culminate with a FREE performance of student works created in the sculpture gardens of Chesterwood.


Ballet Intensive

August 1 – August 6, 2022, | Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. | Pulse Studios | $400, TA and EBT available

Serving 2 groups of students:

Group 1: advanced beginner/intermediate dancers, ages 11-13

Group 2: intermediate/advanced dancers, ages 14+

with Berkshire Pulse Performing Arts Faculty and Guest Teaching Artists

This program will offer ballet students an opportunity to expand their knowledge of Ballet as a traditional and contemporary art form while experiencing its value as an effective tool for other dance forms. Daily classes include a ballet technique class, a technical modern class, variations/ repertory, strength and conditioning classes including Pilates and Yoga, and workshops and discussions on wellbeing for dancers, dance history, and contemporary ballet dancers and choreographers. Challenging all facets of the student’s artistry, our faculty will meet each artist where they are to refine their technical skills, strength, musicality, and foster their dynamic artistry. The program culminates with an informal sharing for families on the last day.
