Join us for the Glovebox project kickoff, featuring FREE hats, gloves, and mittens embroidered with Pittsfield public school student poetry; hot chocolate; a short poetry reading; poetry anthologies; and songs by Johnny Irion! The winter gear will be available in a special house designed especially for them by The Mastheads.
The Mastheads—a Pittsfield public humanities project that pairs writing, architecture, and design—has embroidered 300 hats and pairs of gloves and mittens with student poetry written this fall through our poetry-in-schools programs at Crosby Educational Academy and Conte Community School. We designed a glovebox / hat house to sit along the guard rail of the Riverside Sitting Park, where the winter gear will be available free to the community through the end January. In February, the Glovebox will turn over to local community organizations to use as a free book house and more! Pittsfield Public Schools, Elegant Stitches, the Westside Legends, and the Blackwing Foundation helped make it all possible. We hope you’ll join us on New Year’s Day and grab some winter gear. Bring your friends and family!
